I learned how to bake at a very young age.  Like most kids, I was always curious about what my mother and older sisters were up to in the kitchen.

Not magic....just lots of dedicated activity.  Many hours were spent at our house grinding hazelnuts, walnuts or some other nut to make the dough of a pastry or cake.  There was such a lot of energy that went into our desserts, and yet every moment of this time was infused with a total love.

All of us loved desserts, and so each of us were delighted to be asked to perform one of these tasks.  It definitely created a deep pride when we could claim  at the dinner table that we had made the delicious dessert.
